Man charged after pitchfork, bricks used in disturbing attack on retirement complex

WARNING, GRAPHIC CONTENT: A disturbing rampage on a Perth retirement complex has seen a sleeping woman hit in the head with a brick and her neighbour assaulted with a pitchfork.

The 55-year-old man allegedly attacked people as he forced his way into four units and a day care centre in the suburb of Karrinyup within the space of 45 minutes on Friday morning, police say.

The ordeal started just after 5.30am Friday at the complex on Davenport Street.

Police say her 59-year-old neighbour was punched in the face and shoulder and assaulted with a pitchfork.

A 73-year-old man in another unit managed to escape after the naked man allegedly smashed through his sliding door and confronted him in his bedroom.

It's alleged the man then moved on to the next-door childcare centre, smashed a window and doused a contractor with petrol from a jerry can.

Police say he then threatened a man at Karrinyup Shopping Centre, smashing his car window.

The rampage ended on the street behind soon after the man reversed his car into a garage.
