Anxious wait for family of little girl who nearly drowned in Bali

The family of a Sydney toddler who almost drowned in Bali are hoping to learn today if she has avoided any long term health damage.

Three-year-old Kawa Sweeney is in a critical condition at Princess Margaret Hospital in Perth after an emergency air ambulance flight from Bali on Monday night.

It was an extremely delicate operation to get Kawa home, with almost a dozen medical staff required to carefully unload her off the plane.

Her stretcher was packed with medical machines and her father was by her side as she was rushed to hospital, where her mother and aunt were already waiting.

"I'm really proud of my sister, she's got a lot of faith and a lot of good friends and family supporting her, so she is holding up alright," Kawa's aunt, Christine Walsh said.

Kawa was found unconscious at the bottom of a pool in Uluwatu.

Her heart had stopped beating but Cottesloe doctor Grant Booth, who had been surfing with her father, performed CPR for more than an hour and managed to revive her.

The question is now whether or not Kawa has suffered any permanent damage.

The little girl is currently undergoing a series of tests as family flies in from as far away as the United States for a bedside vigil.
