Vigilantes target man who stabbed Luna the Labrador

The man who avoided jail over the stabbing death of Luna the labrador has been targeted by vigilantes who are angry that he has avoided jail.

Police have put on extra patrols as community anger builds.

There is heightened security around Jayde Paul Rowan's home a day after he avoided jail for a crime that shocked Perth.

The victim, Luna the labrador, was stabbed to death in front of owner Bridgette.

"I do think people are very disappointed over the sentence that was handed down and I can understand that disappointment and even anger," Police Minister Michelle Roberts said.

The sentence has sparked outrage among the community and led to a string of threats posted online against the 37-year-old.

"Any kind of vigilante act or violence or negative behaviour is not going to help," Bridgette's friend Kayla McNicol said.

Mr Rowan has already been the target of at least one angry protestor.

Neighbours say this morning a man was outside his house hurling a disturbing tirade of abuse, but fled just before police arrived.

The attack has distressed Luna's owner, who was too upset to speak today.

Instead of threatening Mr Rowan, Bridgette said she wanted Luna's supporters to sign a petition calling for tougher penalties against anyone convicted of animal cruelty.

"If you want to help us get justice for Luna, get onto our Facebook page Justice for Luna, or Instagram, and sign the petition," Ms McNicol said.
