Hitting Out at 'Washington's' Immigration Policy, Romney Announces Senate Run in Utah

Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney announced via Twitter on Friday, February 16, that he was entering the race for Utah’s Senate seat.

Romney lost the 2012 presidential election to President Barack Obama. In a campaign video posted to Twitter, Romney hits out at “politicians in Washington,” highlighting the issues of debt and trade, and then, in what will be seen as a criticism of the Trump administration, says, “Utah welcomes legal immigrants from around the world, Washington sends immigrants a message of exclusion, and on Utah’s Capitol Hill, people treat one another with respect.”

Romney said he would “owe the Senate seat to no one but the people of Utah, no donor, no corporation, will own my campaign or bias my vote.” Credit: Mitt Romney via Storyful
