Raqqa Fighting Threatens Food and Water Supply, Forces Thousands to Flee
Residents of the Islamic State-held city of Raqqa, fleeing fighting and food shortages, face “harrowing living conditions” at camps in the surrounding countryside, the International Committee of the Red Cross reported on August 16.
About 250,000 people have fled the city, with tens of thousands of civilians still trapped inside as fighting between IS forces and Syrian government and US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces intensified. The ICRC said fighting had restricted food and water supplies in the city and that electricity had been cut off since May.
This video shows scenes from camps for the displaced, some up to 100km away from the city.
