Coles customer's revolting find in 'ready to eat' salad

Footage has surfaced of a worm crawling through a woman’s meal after she said it was tipped from a “ready to eat” Coles salad bag.

The shopper seemed to have nearly finished eating her meal when she spotted the small black animal, which appeared to be in good health, as it wiggled its way across her plate.

“Found a worm in the salad that Coles claim is washed and ready to eat,” she wrote to the retailer’s Facebook page on Friday.

“How is this safe for consumers Coles?,” she added.

The worm was understood to have come from inside a packet of a Coles branded “Australian 4 leaf salad”.

On the plastic packaging, the product is described to be “washed and ready to eat”.

While it was unknown what day the shopper opened the pack, the “use by” date was November 8 – five days before video of it was shared to Facebook.

A Coles spokesperson said the supermarket had been in touch with the customer since her post.

“Coles takes the quality of all our products seriously. We have spoken to the customer and our supplier is investigating the matter,” they told Yahoo News Australia.

“As always we encourage customers to return any item they’re not 100 per cent happy with to their nearest store for a full refund or replacement.”
