Allen's Lollies removing childhood favourite from shelves

Sweet-toothed Australians have been hit hard by the news Allen’s Lollies has discontinued one of their household favourites.

The company, owned by Swiss food giant Nestle, stopped producing Marella Jubes earlier this year after dwindling sales.

A Nestle spokesperson confirmed to Yahoo7 News production had ceased in June.

And devoted fans of the multi-flavoured lollies took to social media to reveal their devastation over the decision.

“Marella Jubes gone? It’s a tragedy!” one Facebook user wrote.

“My favourite since I was a child in the 60s.”

They’re my dad’s favourite!” another said of the sugar coated treats.

Allen’s Lollies were quick to console their distraught customers, hoping new products may take their fancy.

“We’re just as disappointed as you are to see them go but over time demand has decreased and we’ve had to make way for new ideas and products,” a spokesperson said online.

“We’re sorry to disappoint you and appreciate your support over the years.”

The decision comes as the brand has slimmed down its products with the noticeable removal of Green Frogs and Spearmint Leaves in recent years.

However the Nestle spokesperson told Yahoo7 News no further products were in line to be removed.

Allen’s aren’t the only lolly brand to be pulling their confectionary treats from shelves, with Coles and Woolworths removing Starbust from stores.
