Tradie's rare decision after discovering $10m lotto win at 2am

A Brisbane tradie has made a surprising move after becoming $10 million richer from winning Powerball.

The man, aged in his 30s, held one of the two division one winning entries from Thursday night’s Powerball draw.

He only discovered he had won his prize after he checked his emails at 2am on Friday, and while many would skip a shift or even quit their jobs after winning the lotto, the tradesman still woke up early and went to work.

“At first I thought, ‘cool, I’ve won $10,000’, but then I realised I’d actually won a lot more – I’d won the top prize. Wow,” he said.

“I couldn’t sleep after that! So, I’ve been up since 2am and now I’m at work.”

The winner plans to buy a house for himself and one for his mum.

But apparently he won’t be retiring anytime soon.

“I’m self-employed, so I’ve still got to work, and I’ll keep working even after this,” he said.

“I’ve always said if I won the lottery, I’d keep working. I’d get bored otherwise, but this just takes the worries away.”

The winning numbers were 29, 35, 19, 15, 6, 22 and 27. The all-important Powerball number was 14.

The other division one winning ticket is held by a NSW resident.
