$500 mistake helps group take home $1.5m lotto prize

A Western Australian lottery syndicate has revealed how a $500 mistake led to them winning $1.5 million.

The group, from South Younderup south of Perth, claimed the tidy sum from Saturday Lotto’s Division One.

A member of the syndicate said the group have continuously bought entries after missing out on a prize previously.

“It’s been a 22-year journey,” she said.

“We didn’t stop because it would have annoyed me if our numbers ever came up.

“We missed one week, and we would have won $500,” she recalled. A mistake the group of punters didn’t want to repeat.

There were 19 winners overall who each took home $1.5 million from the draw on Saturday with three of them from WA.

The winning numbers were 7, 5, 16, 44, 14 and 17, with 26 and 31 the supplementary numbers.

The syndicate’s winning ticket was bought from Austin Lakes IGA.
