Thomas Markle's cringeworthy attention grab
It’s safe to presume that Meghan Markle is high on life right now.
The 37-year-old is touring Australia with her husband, Prince Harry, in some of the most amazing designer outfits we’ve seen and on top of that, she just announced she’s expecting her first child in April.
And while it should be a wonderful time of celebrations for the Duchess of Sussex and her family, her father, Thomas Markle, has just tried to steal the limelight from the royal pair by posing for a series of professional shots.
The 74-year-old, who pulled out of his daughter’s May 19th wedding due to a reported heart attack, has been snapped near his home in Rosarito, Mexico.
It seems that Thomas, who pulls a series of different facial expression in the snaps, while dressed in a rolled-up sleeved shirt and spectacles, has learned nothing from the debacle before his daughter’s royal wedding, where he posed for paparazzi pictures.
At the time, the former lighting director was photographed sitting in an internet café, browsing through images of Meghan and her fiancé, Prince Harry.
He was even snapped being sized up for a suit so he could walk his daughter up the aisle in style.
However, just days later Kensington Palace released a statement claiming Prince Charles would be taking on the role instead, and sources told The Sun Meghan Markle was ‘left in tears’ by her dad’s actions.
“Sadly, my father will not be attending our wedding,” Meghan said in the statement, which was released two days before she walked up the aisle at Windsor Castle.
“I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health.”
Since then, Meghan and her father have reportedly had little to no contact, which obviously hasn’t deterred her father from again posing for staged paparazzi pics.
Thomas has even taken to giving intimate media interviews about his daughter, her new role in the royal family and his desperate bids to get her to talk to him.
In August, he claimed he wanted to reach out to Meghan because he feared she would never speak to him again.
“I want to say good luck and God bless to my daughter. I don’t expect to see her or hear back from her — and that’s OK,” he told The Sun.
“All I was doing was saying things I wanted to say. I just want to re-establish the relationship with my daughter.”
But who could blame Meghan Markle for cutting ties with her dad?
He embarrassed her right before one of the biggest moments in her life and has made it clear since then he’s willing to chat about her personal life in front of anyone who will listen.
Not to mention the fact that he even dragged Prince Harry’s grandmother, the Queen, into their family feud, by claiming in an interview with TMZ that if the monarch was willing to meet President Trump, she had ‘no excuse’ not to meet with him.
Add to that the fact that Thomas gave another interview to the Mail on Sunday when he found out about his daughter’s pregnancy, instead of simply keeping his feelings to himself and giving Meghan a call.
“I was sitting in line waiting to cross the border when I heard the baby announcement on the car radio,” he said.
“I thought, “My baby is having a baby.” It was a very proud moment.
“I was filled with love, joy and happiness for both my beautiful daughter and my son-in-law.”
It’s a sad thing when a father and daughter’s relationship breaks down, especially when it seems like Meghan and her dad were extremely close when she was young.
But if Thomas Markle wants to reconnect with Meghan Markle and be a part of his grandchild’s life, surely he knows posing for staged paparazzi pictures and making cringeworthy pleas to his daughter through the media isn’t the way to go about it.
