Cocaine Cassie's ex-fiancé posts cryptic message after news of her engagement

The ex-fiancé of convicted drug smuggler Cassie Sainsbury has shared some cryptic words following the announcement of his former partner’s engagement to a fellow female prisoner.

Scott Broadbridge, who was engaged to the Adelaide native before she was convicted for trying to smuggle 5.8kgs of cocaine out of Colombia, took to Facebook on Monday after the shocking news broke.

“Just remember: Every experience in life (good or bad) is there to either teach you a lesson or help make you a stronger person,” his post read.

“No situation is permanent. Every situation can change without notice. If you're stuck in a hard place, keep pushing through and I promise if you stay positive, things will get better.”

The 24-year-old, who was dubbed ‘Cocaine Cassie’ after her arrest in Colombia in 2017, revealed to New Idea she was set to marry a Venezuelan woman named Joli, 29.

“It’s very overwhelming because it’s not something that I exactly expected from all of this, that’s for sure. At first we took it very slowly … and here we are!” Sainsbury told the publication.

Despite serving a six-year sentence in El Buen Pastor women’s prison in Bogota, Sainsbury said it hasn’t stopped the couple from planning their nuptials.

The 24-year-old, who learned to speak Spanish in prison, was engaged to Mr Broadbridge at the time of her arrest.

The pair split up after she was sentenced for trying to smuggle cocaine out of Colombia. Sainsbury said they have no contact with each other.
