A 54-year-old man was rescued by emergency services after he tried to cross a flooded creek in Roebourne overnight.

At about 11.40pm the South Australian man attempted to drive across the creek on the Harding River Dam Road, but his vehicle became stuck due to high water levels.

The man then contacted his boss and waited on the bonnet of his Ford Ranger for emergency assistance.

Roebourne Police, State Emergency Service volunteers and the mine site Emergency Response Team attended.

SES crew rescued the driver and the minesite ERT remained at the scene to recover the stranded vehicle.

A police media spokesman said the incident should act as a reminder of the dangers for people driving in regional WA.

“In this instance the driver was lucky he was able to communicate with his employer, who was then able to raise the alarm with WA Police,” he said.
