Midland man's death a homicide: police
Police are treating the death of 25-year-old Midland man Tyron Paul Honeywood as a homicide.
Mr Honeywood's body was discovered about 8am yesterday at his home, the second of three units at a complex on Cope Street.
Det-Sen. Sgt Greg McDonald, of the Major Crime Squad, would not go into detail about the man's death.
It is understood Mr Honeywood may have been wheelchair-bound.
"At this stage we are making an appeal for information from anyone who may have seen or heard anything in the vicinity of Cope Street and Morrison Road overnight," Det-Sen. Sgt McDonald said.
A male was taken into police custody and is assisting police with the investigation.
William Cobanovic said his friend's mother manages the property where the body was discovered.
"She called me to say there was a murder in one of the blocks she managed," he said.
Mr Cobanovic said there were undercover police "everywhere" in Midland yesterday morning and his vehicle was stopped and searched.
Forensics officers were seen combing a vacant block next to the unit where the body was found.
Ricky Humphries, 17, who lives near the crime scene, said he had heard men yelling in the street about 2am.
"They were shouts of anger," he said.
"It sounded like a group of people.
"I also heard banging and screeching, the sound made when someone is jumping a fence.
"It was scary."
Ricky said the noises woke him but he didn't go outside to investigate.
He was unsure what direction the shouting had come from.
Late yesterday, Dannielle Bridgland and two young girls laid flowers beneath a tree on Cope Street to pay their respects.
"It's a horrible thing that's happened and so close to home," she said.
"When something like this happens, when somebody loses a life, it really hits home.
"In the nine years, I have been here, this is the third time a life has been lost due to unforeseen circumstances."
Ms Bridgland said she felt for Mr Honeywood's family.
"At the end of the day, we've all got to look out for each other," she said.
