Tennis legend's son arrested amid 'big drug deal'
The son of tennis legend John McEnroe has been arrested after police allegedly caught him in the middle of a drug deal in New York.
Police officers stopped Kevin McEnroe in Manhattan’s East Village at around 11:30pm after he was suspected of buying drugs from a 22-year-old.
Among the drugs allegedly found on McEnroe by police were six bags of cocaine, 20 oxy pills, 10 morphine pills and one anxiety pill, according to the New York Post.
The 28-year-old was brought to court on charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance, and released without bail.
The son of McEnroe and actress Tatum O’Neal, Kevin attended Trinity School – a $44,000 (£25,700) New York prep school before attending Skidmore and then Columbia University.
O’Neal, who was arrested herself trying to buy crack cocaine near her apartment in 2008, got divorced from McEnroe in 1994 and four years later he took custody of their children when she fell back into heroin abuse problems.
McEnroe married rock singer Patty Smyth in 1997 and the couple have daughters Anna, 18, and Ava, 15, together. McEnroe is also stepfather to Smyth's 28-year-old daughter Ruby, who she had with ex-husband musician Richard Hell.
The US tennis legend won three Wimbledon titles and four US Open crowns but was renowned for his short temper on court and frequent arguments with tennis umpires.
