Margaret River's Kody Hooson will travel to Adelaide as part of the State volleyball team for the Junior Beach Volleyball Championships on April 9.

Hooson, 19, will be the only Margaret River competitor and will play alongside teammates Adam Kempen, John Hunt and Caleb Watson in the men's under-23s.

Hooson competed in the State men's under-19s team in 2012 and continued to train for national competitions.

He said he drove to Perth to train every Wednesday and played State series games every second weekend.

"It's quite a bit of personal fitness and training," he said.

"It's definitely tiring after a while."

Hooson said he and Kempen were the shortest players on the team and played a defensive strategy.

He said the team was evenly matched against Victoria, but would face a strong challenge from champions Queensland and a "hard team" from South Australia.

Hooson said the team would give the championships their best shot.
