An old rivalry reignited at the weekend when the Rockingham Triathlon Club took on Mandurah Triathlon Club in the annual interclub race.

Athletes enjoyed the sunshine on Sunday, racing in pleasant conditions on the Singleton course.

The fondly named Smelly Shoe trophy was taken by Mandurah for the third year in a row, leaving Rockingham to hope for victory next year.

Rockingham was outmanned from the start, with its 37 competitors coming up against Mandurah's fleet of 66 athletes.

With points being allocated based on the finishers' positions, superior numbers meant the trophy went to Mandurah.

Mandurah club president Ian Crane was again pleased with the turnout of members from Mandurah, and thanked Rockingham for a well-run race.

Rockingham vice-president Nathan Hart, who instead of racing was compiling results, noted the average scores between the two clubs were just a touch in Rockingham's favour.

Rockingham president Sandy de la Mare was gracious in defeat, but determined that next year should be the winning year for Rockingham.
