A JOINT project between Bunbury Catholic College and Bunbury City Band will allow students from all schools to learn brass instruments.

The Brassomatic program begins this week and gives students the opportunity to learn brass from Bunbury City Band members.

Bunbury Catholic College head of music Melissa Mitchell said there were no brass programs in primary schools and they were working with Bunbury City Band to provide a community project.

"The band's input is to run it and provide the instruments and expertise," she said.

"BCC's input is to provide the students and a venue."

Band member Robert Butler said the project provided benefits for them.

"Bunbury City Band is an ageing band and we need to regenerate," he said.

"We are playing more modern music now, Lady Gaga and the like."

Sessions will be hosted by the school with the aim of moving them to the band's rooms located off Cobblestone Drive.

It is also hoped participants will be encouraged to join the band.

Ms Mitchell said 11 students were already confirmed for the program and they did not need any previous experience to take part.

The sessions will be held weekly, with the first to be held tomorrow at 3.30pm at Bunbury Catholic College's Rodsted Street campus.
