Mystery surrounds the discovery of dumped cannabis plants and hydroponic equipment in remote bushland off Dorsett Road between Waroona and Lake Clifton on December 31.

Waroona Police Sgt Jeff Taylor said a member of the public reported the unusual find after stumbling across it.

He said a number of bags containing 129 cannabis plants, 15cm in height, a substantial amount of expensive hydroponic equipment, reticulation, chemical drums and an air-conditioner were found discarded in a drain.

“The plants were juvenile, not ready for sale yet, and judging from their condition, they would have been discarded very recently, ” Sgt Taylor said.

“I have not come across anything like this before and it raises the question why the plants and the equipment were dumped.

“The hydroponic equipment alone is worth thousands of dollars.

“The chemicals have the potential of a negative environmental impact on the drain and connected waterways and Water Corporation was notified to assess the situation and clean up.”

Sgt Taylor said items were seized for forensic identification and police were waiting for the results.

He was also investigating the sale origin of the chemical drums.

Sgt Taylor is asking the public for help and urges anyone who may have information regarding the find or its owner, to call Waroona Police on 9733 7400 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
