Residents can get a taste of art from South West residents with disabilities before a major exhibition at Edith Cowan University’s Bunbury campus.

The panels, measuring 9” by 5” (22.8cm by 12.7cm), will be displayed in the Front Room of the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries until Sunday. The artwork was created in a series of workshops organised by not-for-profit group Art Partners. The group connects people with disabilities to be mentored by South West artists.

The BRAG exhibition will also showcase work from ECU students and local artists.

Art Partners program officer Wanda Ariano said residents had produced panels during workshops with artists Helen Seiver and Marina Troitsky.

They were taught painting and print making techniques which they used to create works of art.

Their work will also be displayed in a bigger 9X5 exhibition at the ECU Bunbury campus, in the foyer of building three, which starts on August 28 and finishes on September 17.

The September 19 auction starts at noon from building 6.102 at the Bunbury campus.

Proceeds will be donated to Art Partners.

“We are in this exciting collaboration with the university,” Ms Ariano said.

“We want to work with them and they want to work with us.”

The 9X5 exhibition was inspired by a similar exhibition at the Heidelberg School in Melbourne in 1889.
