Pool party to farewell coach

After 10 years as a swimming coach at Rockingham Aquatic Centre, Nina Clayton says goodbye to her students.

After a decade of teaching youngsters to swim at Rockingham Aquatic Centre, coach Nina Clayton has hung up her bathers.

The 62-year-old announced her retirement last month and ended her coaching career with a pool party on March 26.

Past swimming students gathered at the centre to wish Mrs Clayton well on her new journey.

Mrs Clayton said she would miss the students, but it was time for her to relax.

“It is about time to give myself a break,” she said. “I’m going to miss it and miss the kids, but I think it’s time.”

A swim coach for up to 20 years, Mrs Clayton said she became involved in the industry when her children began swimming lessons, and she never left.

She said she hoped she had given her students enjoyment as well as improved their swimming abilities.

“It has been a privilege to watch the kids develop and improve their technique, stamina and confidence,” Mrs Clayton said.

“It has been a pleasure and I hope they go on to do great things.”
