New lights switched on

The traffic lights were switched on at Bunbury’s busy Koombana Drive and Estuary Drive intersection yesterday, two weeks ahead of schedule.

Bunbury MLA John Castrilli welcomed the new road upgrade.

He said the new intersection would improve safety and traffic flow at Koombana Drive and Estuary Drive, as well as the Eelup roundabout.

“It will greatly improve road safety for the mix of heavy vehicles and local traffic using the intersection and accessing the Bunbury Port,” Mr Castrilli said.

The Koombana Drive and Estuary Drive intersection was upgraded because of the impact it could have on the operation of the Eelup roundabout.

Estuary Drive links Bunbury and the suburbs of Australind and Eaton and carries about 14,000 vehicles a day.

Koombana Drive is the main access road into Bunbury’s city centre and carries about 13,000 vehicles a day.

The intersection has a mix of heavy vehicles and local traffic, with both roads providing access to Bunbury Port.
