Family-friendly bikers

The inaugural meeting of the newest chapter of the Blue Knights Motor Cycle Club was held in Rockingham last week which has freed up Rockingham members to get down to their favourite pastime.

Blue Knights is the international law enforcement motor cycle club and Blue Knights IV, has just been set up with 10 members from the Rockingham area.

President Darryn Parr said there was a desire for Rockingham members of the Perth chapter to branch out on their own.

‘‘Basically we started it because we had a group of 10 riders who always used to ride from here to the other meeting which was usually held in Perth or slightly north of Perth for the Blue Knights Australia I Meeting because we’re all members of that chapter,’’ he said.

‘‘There’s a 130-odd members in Australia, so it’s a touch on the big side so we decided that we needed 10 riders to start the club who came from down here all the time and we had 10 ready-made.

‘‘Everything is still the same, we’ll still hold the same ideals like promoting safe riding and correct riding, we raise funds for charity, our favourite, of course, being Police Legacy.’’

Mr Parr said the club’s commitment to promoting safe riding would continue in the new chapter.

‘‘The best thing about the newer club is the ability to ride, to ride with friends, we ride with family,’’ he said.

‘‘The guys from down here ride a lot with their families and we promote that as much as we can so it’s more of a family-friendly club.

‘‘The major thing is riding, we all love to ride motorbikes.’’
