Double demerits for Queen's Birthday holiday

Police have reminded road users that double demerit point penalties and strict enforcement will be in place during this weekend’s Queen’s Birthday celebrations.

Drivers should expect a “no tolerance” approach to traffic enforcement, with extra officers on the road.

Senior Constable Ross Bartley said alcohol-related behaviour as well as speeding, talking on mobile phones and not wearing seatbelts would be closely monitored.

Snr Const. Bartley said because it was the first long weekend for some time, road users had to be mindful of police expectations.

“Motorcyclists in particular need to be aware of their environment,” he said.
