A group of Rockingham women who have linked arms for the Cancer Council's Rockingham-Kwinana Relay For Life are encouraging others to jump on board.

The overnight relay next month is a time to celebrate cancer survivors and honour and remember loved ones lost to the disease.

The events held across Australia raise vital funds for cancer research, prevention, information and support services.

Rockingham-Kwinana's team Bugalugs are leading the fundraising charge for the region's 32 teams, having raised $7608 towards the cause.

Combined, the teams' 224 participants have raised $35,911.35, with a goal of $100,000.

Bugalugs team member Sarah Foster, whose sister Ruby Peebles was diagnosed with cancer, said the relay would be a special time for her family this year.

"A few of us have done Relay for Life before, but this is the first time it has been this close to home," she said.

"There are three on the team who have had varying types of cancers."

Rockingham-Kwinana Relay For Life teams co-ordinator Tracy Adams, who is also on team Bugalugs, hoped more community members would sign up before the event on May 23 and 24.

"Get a team and get on board - it is a really good community event," she said.

"It is really worthwhile to raise money for people you know and care about, because many people know someone affected by cancer."

Rockingham-Kwinana residents will gather at the Village Green, Rockingham, to camp overnight for the event in which participants can walk or run in relay style.
