Tigers draw on pink power
Tigers are known for their stripes, but earlier this month you would have found quite a few in Newman decked out in pink.
Players from the Tigers Football and Sporting Club donned pink jumpers as part of the annual Pink Sports Day, which they celebrated early on May 2.
During the past four years, the club has raised more than $13,000 which has been donated to the Breast Cancer Network Australia.
This year, $2640 was raised by the players and supporters.
Players purchased their pink jumpers for $50 and also wore pink socks and pink armband tape.
The club also held a raffle while everyone who had a photo taken by Serene Bedlam Photobooth popped some money in a donation tin.
Tigers spokeswoman Mel Parr designed this year's jumper and said this year's pink sports day was extra special because it also doubled as the club's annual sponsors' night.
She thanked the club's sponsors Metso Minerals, Linden Family Co, Quickchill, Thirsty Camel Newman, Pilbara Access, Schenck Process, Northwest Aviation Services, Caltex Starmart Newman, Workpac and East Pilbara Pest Management for their support.
"The footy clubs of Newman are struggling with numbers and volunteers due to (it) being such a FIFO town," she said. "It was great to see so many there supporting the night for a great cause … we had a great crowd of about 80 people on the night."
The day was made even better by the fact the Tigers beat the top side Centrals by 29 points.
