Heavenly sight to reach new heights

Melburnian Joe Hall took this snap of the staircase to the moon over Hearson's Cove.

The North West's favourite natural phenomenon, staircase to the moon, is set to return to our shores on March 6, promising to be bigger and better than ever.

As usual, tickets to the show are free and seating at all popular venues, including Hearson's Cove, Onslow and Cossack, is plentiful.

Karratha Visitor Centre manager Bazz Harris said Pilbara staircases were generally more reliable than, and just as spectacular as, their more fancied northern neighbours.

"It's one of those must-do things while you're here," he said.

"The natural amphitheatre at Hearson's lends itself to parking out there and kicking your feet up."

Mr Harris said the popular event attracted crowds of up to 150 cars on its best nights.

The moon is set to put on the fantastic display 27 times across nine months this year, with dates posted on local visitor centre websites.

Mr Harris said dates were accurate but exact times at each location would vary slightly from the Hearson's Cove times on the KVC website.
