Spinner and grinners all winners at two-up ring

Sunday afternoon two-up has resulted in numerous winners - including groups well outside the ring.

Organiser Danny Sheehan, who was brought up with the game courtesy of his father, revitalised the famous circular tin shed 8km north of the city 18 months ago.

From the start he wanted to help out local clubs.

Last week, some of those groups assembled at the iconic bush venue to lend support.

"We have given over $30,000 to social and sporting groups in a year and a half," Mr Sheehan, the only two-up licensee in the region, said.

"These groups include Rotary clubs, highland dancing, the trotting club, Toastmasters, Giants basketball club, Lake View cricket club and the BMX. I wanted to give back to the community as much as possible and it seemed a great way to achieve it."

Anyone keen to play two-up, and they can do so with pretend money before the main gambling begins, should journey north to the ring on Sunday afternoons.

Families and children are welcome for the fun money game from 12.30pm to 1pm.

However, when the real stuff starts, those under 18 must head on home.

"I give a bit of a talk about the history of the game in the Goldfields, mention some of the characters and try to make it entertaining," Mr Sheehan said. "I then hand out some fun money so they can play a bit and get the idea of it."

Each week there is a different community group, and those keen to take part should contact Mr Sheehan on 0409 682 911 for information.
