Hands-on fun for parade

The red dirt from the Super Pit was replaced by the handiwork of 300 students when KCGM decorated a haul truck for its annual appearance in the St Barbara’s Day parade.

The 793F Caterpillar truck was painted in hand prints by local primary school students who experienced a “hands-on” approach to learning about the mining industry.

“We’re often approached by schools learning about the mining industry,” KCGM environment and social responsibility manager Michelle Berryman said.

“What better way to get students interested in the industry than to get on a mine site and up close to a dump truck?”

Students from Boulder, East Kalgoorlie, Kalgoorlie and O’Connor primary schools took part in the truck painting.
