Gero to host gay comedy

Gay comedy will be a feature of Geraldton’s Sunshine Festival for the first time this year.

The Gay Mid West Social Group has arranged sponsorship to bring Melbourne drag queen group “the Manly Sisters” to Geraldton for a 500 ticket night at the Central Greenough Historical Settlement.

The event, G-Fest PRIDE in the Mid West, will include the five members of The Manly Sisters, local comedians and acts, a talent quest.

The outdoor event, for adults only, will be fully licensed and food stalls will be installed around an arena.

Local identities and sponsors were recently treated to a preview with a one “woman” show titled “A Close Shave with Jillette” with the main star of The Manly Sisters.

Held at St Catherine’s Hall in the hamlet, organiser Peter Dameon said “laughter and applause filled the auditorium and the evening had the audience stomping their feet for encores.

“Jillette’s tongue-in-cheek satirical skits left no-one in the audience safe from her razorsharp wit,” he said.

Mr Dameon said ticket sales for the main event would be open soon with outlets to be advised.

The Gay Mid West Group are seeking new members and also extra volunteers for G-Fest, interested people can email gaymidwest@bigpond.com or write to: Gay Mid West PO Box 7111 Geraldton 6531.
