Body found in home destroyed by fire

Police believe a body found in a home destroyed by fire in Geraldton at the weekend is that of 55-year-old real estate agent Nora Allen.

The body is yet to be formally identified but Ms Allen has not been seen since her home was engulfed by flames.

Fire ripped through the George Road property within minutes on Friday night and emergency services battled for more than an hour to bring the blaze under control.

A Fire and Emergency Services Authority spokesman said firefighters were called to the home about 10.30pm after a passerby noticed the fire.

The house was fully engulfed by the flames and collapsed in on itself.

Neighbours in the area were evacuated as fire crews tried to stop the blaze spreading to nearby homes.

Emergency services stayed at the property until 3am Saturday and George Road was blocked to traffic.

The damage bill from the blaze is estimated at more than $1 million.

Police will today conduct a crime scene examination of the home.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known but the police arson squad are investigating.
