Break-all-the-rules one-pot pasta

Melt the anchovies in the olive oil in a wide pan over a medium heat, add the garlic and stir before adding the remaining ingredients and four cups of water (reserve the half-cup to use only if required). Bring it to the boil then reduce to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, stirring every so often. Serve straight from the pot with a grind of black pepper.

2 garlic cloves, finely chopped

1 punnet cherry tomatoes, cut in half

1 cup pitted black olives

1/4 cup drained capers

1 cup basil leaves

pinch chilli flakes

500g spaghetti

41/2 cups water
