Teen models get big break
Landing a place in the Perth Fashion Festival line-up is a coveted gig for many burgeoning models.
The final casting call for the annual event wrapped up last night, with lots of fresh talent unearthed. Festival director Mariella Harvey- Hanrahan, renowned stylist Zara Bryson and designers from local labels Zhivago, Ae'lkemi and One Fell Swoop formed part of the panel, which had the task of whittling down hundreds of beauties to a final number of about 100 at the Hyatt Regency.
Anna Rose of Chadwick's Perth, Liesel Morgan of Vivien's Model Management and Melody Wilkinson of Scene were singled out by judges early for having that certain special quality the festival looks for in its models.
Yet, surprisingly, the three teens have all been modelling for only a few months.
Morgan said she hoped being part of the esteemed event would help her break into the modelling scene.
Wilkinson, 20, said the runway shows would give her a confidence boost, while 19-year-old Rose, who signed with her agency only two weeks ago, wanted to learn the ropes of being in a large-scale showcase.

When casting her vote, Ms Harvey-Hanrahan said she would be looking for the usual qualities of personality and good posture but this year was also focusing on models who could adapt.
"More than anything else I'll be looking for girls that can be confident chameleons," she said.
"With over 100 designers showing during the week, all with their own distinct aesthetics, it's important as a model to have all these factors to really own the runway."
The festival starts on September 17 in its new home at the Perth Concert Hall.
