A 16-year-old Maylands boy has been charged after several cars, most parked near a hospital, had their windows smashed and items inside stolen in Mt Lawley earlier this month.

Police allege the boy smashed some car windows to steal items inside and others to cause damage on February 16 and 17.

Most of the cars were parked near Mercy Hospital in Thirlmere Road.

The boy has been charged with eight counts of stealing and 10 counts of criminal damage.

He is due to appear in Perth Children's Court today.
