Stormie fishes for film funds

UK fikmmaker Mark Strong and Perth artist Stormie Mills.

His moody artworks have garnered a cult following and now Stormie Mills plans on taking his creations to the screen.

The Perth contemporary artist has launched a crowd- funding campaign to transform one of his collections, A Fish Tale, into a stop-motion animation that explores the idea of relationships.

Mills is hoping to raise $250,000 through the Kickstarter drive by May 13 in order to develop the project, which is in collaboration with UK filmmaker Mark Strong.

Strong saw Mills’ first solo show in Sydney in 2008 and was so moved that he penned a story inspired by the work. Mills then created the exhibition A Fish Tale to act as a storyboard for the animation, which sold out before it opened and formed the foundation for the stop- motion version.

Donations towards the Kickstarter campaign will help Mills turn this dream into a reality and, in return for their contribution, supporters will have access to limited-edition rewards.
