What Stuart Little taught Jackman's son

Finding the right time to tell your children they're adopted can be a daunting task for any parent.

But for Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness it happened at the most unexpected of moments - while watching Stuart Little.

The golden Australian couple have two adopted kids, nine-year-old Ava and 14-year-old Oscar.

"Have you told them yet," a radio host asked Furness yesterday while she was talking about the upcoming National Adoption Awareness Week.

"I knew I forgot to tell them something," Furness joked, adding that she and Jackman had always been completely transparent about the issue.

But she said she wasn't quite expecting to drop the news to her son the way she did.

"It made me laugh because when Oscar was about two years old we were watching Stuart Little," Furness said in reference to the 1999 film about a mouse raised by a human family.

"And Oscar actually said to me 'Am I adopted, Mum?' And I said 'Well, actually you are'.

"I wasn't quite ready for that conversation but there you go."
