Massive expansion for Innaloo shopping centre

Plans for a $450 million overhaul of the Westfield Innaloo shopping centre that will see it nearly double in size and add a second storey and a new cinema complex have been unveiled today.

The redevelopment is the work of Westfield owner Scentre Group but it also forms part of the City of Stirling’s plans for a new town centre that will include public open space, a rooftop dining precinct and ultimately scope for up to 500 apartments.

Subject to planning approval the Innaloo centre will expand from 51,300sqm to 99,000sqm of retail, entertainment, commercial and community space.

The number of shops will increase from 130 to 240, including a new department or discount department store, a fresh food market and as yet unnamed international retailers.

Scentre development general manager Roy Gruenpeter said the site would become “a true community hub”.

“The centre will be home to a fully-integrated precinct that includes the very best in retail, dining, entertainment and leisure with the potential for high-demand community facilities,” he said.

“This redevelopment will capitalise on Innaloo’s great location to become one of Perth’s premier retail destinations, as well as providing a key step towards the Stirling city centre.”

A development application for the site has been lodged with Stirling but the scope of the plan means it will go to a joint development assessment panel, not Stirling Council.

Subject to approval work could start in late 2016 and the redeveloped centre would open in early 2018.

Scentre said the redevelopment would create 1900 jobs during construction and 1250 permanent jobs once it was completed.
