Perth could be putting on the Ritz

A Ritz-Carlton Perth may be on the cards, with speculation the luxury hospitality brand has won the lucrative hotel contract at Elizabeth Quay.

The State Government will neither confirm nor deny the rumours and said they were still weeks away from an announcement.

The Government called for expressions of interest in September last year for the hotel and residential component of the $440 million waterfront development.

Planning Minister John Day said the project had attracted considerable attention from the domestic and international market.

"The release of Lots 9 and 10 for a hotel and residential development opportunity received 14 submissions from local, national and international developers with affiliations with luxury upscale hotel brands," he said.

"The Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority is in an exclusive negotiating period with one of the bidders."

The Ritz-Carlton announced dramatic global expansion plans last month.
