NPL WA: Heagney the hero for Bayswater

David Heagney bagged a brace as Bayswater edged a five-goal thriller 3-2 against Perth in a heavyweight PS4 National Premier Leagues WA clash at Dorrien Gardens.

His first came on 19 minutes before Bor Bor Sam curled home as the hosts led 2-0 at the break.

Ash Rosindale halved the deficit to give Perth hope, but Heagney was in the right place to score what proved to be the winner with 17 minutes left.

Harley Orr netted late on to give Perth hope of salvaging a point, but Bayswater held firm for a result that coach Chris Coyne hopes will set the standard for his chargers.

“We’ve been at the top for two years now and if somebody wants to knock us off, they’ve got to do it the hard way. We’re not going to be pushovers,” he said.

“We sat down and analysed last week’s game (against Inglewood) and we were a bit of a soft touch.

“Not one of my teams’ will ever be a soft touch, so tonight we set down a marker and if teams want to catch us, that’s what you’ve got to beat.”

A goal from skipper Adam Tong 11 minutes from time has earned Balcatta a 1-1 draw against Inglewood United at Inglewood Stadium.

Subiaco ran out 3-1 winners against Perth Glory Youth on their return to Rosalie Park after a tireless 90-minute performance.

Floreat Athena made it three wins from three with a 1-0 win over Stirling Lions in their round four fixture at Macedonia Park.

A superb second half comeback from Cockburn City saw them rebound from successive PS4 NPLWA defeats, leaving Armadale still searching for their first points of 2015.

Jon Stynes grabbed a late winner as ECU Joondalup kicked off Rivalry Round with a 2-1 win over Sorrento at Percy Doyle Reserve on Friday night.
