Margaret River's Jacqui Hutton has made it into the State under-15s hockey team after a competitive selection process.

Hutton played in the State school under-12s and under-13s, and came away with gold in Adelaide in 2012 and third place in Tasmania in 2013.

She moved to the Boyanup hockey club in Bunbury to train after four years at Wests Busselton and would travel to Perth every weekend for three training sessions.

"We train two to three times a week in Perth - Friday, Saturday and sometimes Sunday," she said.

Hutton said she was looking forward to the national competition in April.

"Even though there is a lot of work involved, we still manage to have a lot of fun," she said.

"I've met a lot of really nice people and made some great friends."

Hutton said State-level training picked up the pace.

"The coaching we receive in Perth is of a really high standard," she said.

"We have blackboard discussions on strategy, fitness, health and team culture."

The Shire of Augusta-Margaret River sponsored Hutton with free pool and gym membership to help with her training.
