Charges over Kenwick crash

A man has been charged over a high-speed crash in which the car he was driving burst into flames in Kenwick.

Police allege the driver was speeding on Kenwick Link about 9.15pm on Saturday when he braked suddenly, causing the car to skid through the intersection at Royal Street.

The car allegedly crashed into another vehicle that was stationary on the opposite side of the traffic lights.

Police said the crash happened as a Dog Squad unit waited at the traffic lights.

It is alleged the driver of the speeding car fled into nearby bushland, but was found by police dog Nacho.

"A challenge was issued by Nacho’s handler and the 38-year-old man was taken into custody," police said.

"He was taken to hospital for a check-up and was later charged in relation to the matter."

The man was charged by officers from the Traffic Enforcement Group.

A pillion passenger was taken to hospital in Rockingham after a motorcycle crash in Safety Bay last night.

The crash happened on Read Street and Willmot Drive about 8.20pm.

The passenger suffered leg injuries, while the male driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

In Byford this morning, a man was taken to hospital after his car rolled on South Western Highway and Nettleton Road.

The man’s Holden Commodore crashed about 4.15am. He was taken to Royal Perth Hospital with minor injuries.
