Rock gods Foo Fighters will attempt to beat their own attendance record at nib Stadium next year, when they play Perth on their Australasian tour.

Singer/guitarist Dave Grohl and his band mates played to more than 30,000 fans at the venue three years ago on their Wasting Light tour.

In 2015, the Foos play two concerts in New Zealand before hitting Australian capital cities, including their first gig in Hobart since 1998.

The tour, with support act Chicago punk rockers Rise Against, finishes in Perth on March 7. Tickets go on sale November 13, with presales starting two days earlier.

Next month Foo Fighters release eighth album Sonic Highways, recorded with guest musicians and producers in eight different cities around the US.

The inventive process was documented in an eight-part televisions series, also called Sonic Highways, which Grohl described as "a love letter to the history of American music".

Each episode finishes with the 11-time Grammy Award-winning band performing a new song from the album inspired by the musical culture of the featured city.

Forming 20 years ago in Seattle, Foo Fighters' biggest hits include Everlong, My Hero, Times Like These and Best of You.
