Fremantle coach Ross Lyon is joining the Australian coaching panel for this year’s International Rules fixture.

Lyon and AFL general manager football operations Mark Evans will hold a joint press conference at 1pm in Perth to confirm his appointment as a senior assistant for the November 22 game against Ireland.

The role, working under head coach Alastair Clarkson, was initially offered to Sydney coach John Longmire, whose refusal to work with Collingwood president and International Rules chef de mission Eddie McGuire sparked a war of words between their two clubs.

This year’s International Rules series is restricted to a one-off Test at Patersons Stadium, with the AFL limiting selection to All Australian players in a bid to reignite interest in the concept.

Tickets went on general sale this morning.
