Bigger hoon fines

Motorcyclists caught obscuring their numberplates will soon be hit with a $1000 fine after the State Government announced yesterday it would increase the existing $50 penalty.

The heftier penalty comes amid concern there are more motorcyclists damaging or removing numberplates to enable them to flout road rules and dodge penalties.

Yesterday, The West Australian ran pictures of dozens of bike hoons and rogue riders to elicit public help in identifying them.
