Apology given to Andy's parents

The parents of Andy Marshall have revealed his killer's family offered their condolences and apologies to them at the end of the former bikie associate's trial.

Stefan Schmidt was found guilty of manslaughter after pushing Mr Marshall out of an upper window at the Ocean Beach Hotel in 2011.

Wendy and Alan Marshall said yesterday Schmidt's family approached them and offered their sympathies for the first time.

"I suppose, like an olive leaf, it was a way to reach out and express their condolences to us," Mr Marshall said. "It was very amicable and we are really happy to do that."

Mrs Marshall said: "I did say to Stefan Schmidt's mum . . . you can visit your son but we can't visit ours and she acknowledged that. But they said they were really sorry for our loss."
