A senior constable has appeared in Midland Magistrate's Court accused of misusing the police computer system over a period of four years.

Sen. Const Ashley Graham Lowe is alleged to have inappropriately accessed the WA Police computer system close to 20 times between 2008 and 2012.

The 49-year-old, who is based in the Central metropolitan district, faced court this morning charged with 19 counts of unauthorised use of the computer system.

He was not required to plea and was granted bail.

He has been stood aside from operational duties.
