Storekeeper hit in armed robbery

A storekeeper was hit in the head and a shot was fired in an armed robbery before the offenders escaped with just chocolates at a Gosnells Mini-Mart last night.

Police are investigating the armed robbery on Dorothy Street last night.

A police spokeswoman said two men entered the store with their faces covered just after 7pm.

One of the men pointed a firearm at the 32-year-old proprietor who was standing behind the counter, and demanded money from the till.

The male proprietor declined, before the offender fired the weapon into the air.

It is believed that the firearm was a replica that fired blanks.

The offender then went behind the counter, and struggled with the proprietor. During the incident, the victim was struck several times to the head with the firearm.

The victim then grabbed a knife from the kitchen bench and chased the offenders from the store.

The police spokeswoman said the offenders took chocolates as they ran away.

One man was described as being around 183cm tall, wearing a black zip-up hoodie. The other was wearing a black hoodie. The two offenders spoke to each other in a language other than English.

The victim attended at the Armadale-Kelmscott Hospital and was treated for a laceration to his head.
