UPDATE 2pm: A $40,000 power boat has been gutted by fire in Munster.

The 1989 Thomascraft cruiser was being prepared for launch by a private company when one of the motors caught fire just after 9am.

The blaze tore through the 10m vessel and took fire-fighters almost an hour to bring under control.

Fire crews from Fremantle, Success and Hope Valley attended along with the Department of Parks and Wildlife pollution hazmat response team.

The boat is owned by a member of the Cockburn Power Boats Association.

DFES estimated the combined damage to the boat and a nearby pontoon was $100,000.
