Candles help put Vivaldi in fashion

Music composed by candlelight hundreds of years ago will be performed in candlelight when End of Fashion frontman Justin Burford goes to church with the Perth Chamber Orchestra.

The rock singer turned-screenwriter and actor is helping shine new light on the Baroque music of Antonio Vivaldi as part of the PCO's Heritage Series.

Burford will tell stories about the Italian composer's life as the orchestra presents his work at Wesley Church on September 25.

The orchestra is giving a series of concerts in Perth's heritage buildings to woo new audiences to classical music.

Burford said Vivaldi by Candlelight would showcase the music as it would have been played when created in the early 1700s.

"Musicians have been musicians for centuries and we haven't changed that much," he said.

"I have always been a fan of classical music and would listen to it a lot on tours and sometimes for inspiration in the studio."

Burford said ARIA-winning End of Fashion was in hiatus as he and other band linchpin Rod Aravena pursued other projects.

"We've never had the chat where we have said 'Let's call it a day'," he said. "It's just that everybody has fallen into other rhythms of life."

Burford has a theatre show based on Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and co-wrote and stars in the feature film Foreshadow, a supernatural thriller.
