Parents accused of 'despicable act' at Queensland show as photos of child left in cage emerge

A man was left shocked after witnessing an unthinkable act of parenting at the Royal Queensland Show on Saturday.

The Royal Queensland Show, which is also known as Ekka, is Queensland’s largest annual event with an average of 400,000 people attending every year.

Ekka is run by the Royal National Agriculture and Industrial Association of Queensland (RNA).

One man shared startling photos to Facebook of a child locked in a dog cage on Saturday, August 10.

“Today, I witnessed a shocking and despicable act of parenting at the Ekka,” the man wrote.

“These people, locked their infant child in a dog cage, left it abandoned under a hot tin shed, surrounded by thousands of unknown randoms while they went off and showcased their dog at a competition event.”

The man said no one could find the parents, so police allegedly got involved.

“Some people do not deserve to have children, if they simply believe locking them in a cage is a responsible means of supervised care and/or protection,” the man said.

In a comment on the Facebook post, the man said the child was stressed and upset and it was unclear how long he had been in the cage.

In a statement to Yahoo News Australia, the RNA said they were aware of the images doing the rounds on social media.

“The RNA is aware of an image posted on social media depicting aa young child in a dog cage at the Ekka,” a spokesperson said.

“This matter is under investigated by the Queensland Police Service and as such the RNA can make no further comment. “

Queensland Police confirmed to Yahoo News Australia they are aware of the incident and are investigating, however could not provide any additional information at this point.

The initial Facebook post was deleted on Sunday afternoon.
