Apple reportedly to unveil the iWatch alongside the iPhone 6
Apple will unveil its long-awaited smartwatch alongside of two new iPhone 6 models on September 9, reports suggest.
Respected tech writer John Paczkowski, of Re/Code reports that Apple has shelved its original plan to hold off the launch of what is provisionally being called the iWatch, until October, instead to reveal it to the world in 12 days time.
Paczkowski doesn’t name the device the iWatch — he just calls it Apple’s wearable device.
Wearable computers, also known as "body-borne computers" or "wearables" are miniature electronic devices that are worn by the bearer under, with or on top of clothing.
Fitness tracking devices and wearable computing emerged on the tech scene a few years ago. They promised to transform the burgeoning field of personal electronics: calculating the number of steps walked, calories burned or hours slept. Although there are many brand currently on the market Apple have yet to throw their hat in the 'wearable' ring.
The iWatch or iTime (the name is yet to be confirmed) will look to capitalise on the current health trend by tapping into the Healthkit focus of the new mobile operating system iOS8. Apple’s plan was announced at WWDC earlier this year and hopes to make the iPhone the one-stop shop for all your health data.
Paczkowski says it will be showed off at the iPhone launch but launched properly later in the year, possibly still at an October launch.
Apple is still yet to confirm the September 9 date, which is typical of the company, which likes to build the suspense leading up to its launches.
